Our Summer Internship Program offers you the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in the fields of civil engineering and construction management. Over the course of 10 weeks, you will immerse yourself in real-world projects, applying your academic knowledge while learning from industry experts. You’ll have the chance to explore key areas such as Quality Control, Surveying, Estimating, Plant Operations, Paving, Grading, and Utilities, working alongside professionals who will provide mentorship and guidance. This internship is designed to help you develop the skills, confidence, and connections needed to kickstart your career in the industry.

Our goal is to give you the chance to connect your classroom learning with practical experience, helping you build a strong foundation for your career. This internship is an opportunity to grow professionally, develop your skills, and explore future career paths within the company.

Returning for a second summer?

Our second-year internship experience gives interns the opportunity to build on the foundation they developed during their first summer and take a deeper dive into the areas that interest them most.

Second-year interns can specialize in one or two divisions of their choice, allowing for a more focused and personalized experience based on their career interests and goals. Interns will spend more time working alongside those teams, gaining deeper hands-on experience, taking on additional responsibilities, and continuing to develop their understanding of potential career paths within Banks Construction.

The goal is to tailor the second-year experience to each intern, helping them further develop their skills while exploring the areas of the business they are most interested in pursuing after graduation.

As a Summer Intern, you will:

Paving: Gain experience in the paving process, assisting with project coordination and equipment handling.
Grading: Support grading activities and learn the process of land preparation for construction.
Utilities: Get hands-on experience in utility management and installation, including water, sewer, and storm systems.
Quality Control: Participate in quality testing and inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Estimating: Support the estimating team by assisting with quantity takeoffs, bid preparation, and project cost analysis.
Surveying: Assist in measuring, mapping, and preparing land surveys for various construction projects.
Plant Operations: Work in plant operations to understand the manufacturing process for construction materials.

Additionally, you will:

Work alongside mentors and department leaders to complete a Capstone Project, which will focus on solving a real-world challenge.
Participate in a group service project, aimed at giving back to the community.
Attend a Leadership Day, where you’ll gain valuable insights into leadership and professional development.
Attend social events, such as a Welcome Event, Summer Baseball Game, Summer Social with the Charleston Regional Development Alliance and Farewell Event, to network with peers and company leadership.
